During his lifetime, Jaco received two Grammy nominations for his debut album. In 1988, he was inducted into the Down Beat Jazz Hall of Fame, one of only four bassists to have been done so (along with Milt Hinton, Charles Mingus, and Ray Brown), as well as the only electric bassist to be included.
