New page with definition and consequences
A '''cathode''' is the negative electrode in a [[battery]]. When it is connected by an electrical [[conductor]] to the [[anode]], or positive terminal, [[electron]]s flow out of the cathode to the anode, creating electrical [[current]]. As electrons build up at the anode, it experiences a buildup of negative charge. When this cancels out the anode's original positive charge, the battery has been exhausted and is no longer usable<ref>Zuhmdal, <u>Chemistry</u></ref>.
