An alkali-base reaction is a reaction in which an [[alkali]], such as magnesium carbonate (MgCO<sub>3</sub>) reacts with a [[base]], such as potassium hydroxide (KOH). The reaction produces a metal (Mg and K seperately) and hydroxycarbonate salts (CO<sub>4</sub>H<sup>3+</sup>).
