There is disagreement on whether or not viruses should be considered alive since they do not share many of the processes that other forms of life have. They do not feed, respire, grow, reproduce through cell division, or move under their own power. Viruses also do not have a cell structure, despite having genes.

Some would say they are alive. Evolution is viewed as the overarching theme of biology(the study of life), with this in mind, the definition of life could be based on evolution.  It might be changed to something of this effect: "Something that is alive is anything that is effected by the process of evolution".  This would solve the disagreement about whether or not viruses are alive.
