'''Cornelius Harnett''' (1715 - 1783) was a delegate from North Carolina to the [[Continental Congress]] from 1777-1779 and a signer of the [[Articles of Confederation]]. A merchant, he served as a member of the colonial assembly from 1754-1775; Harnett also served as chairman of the North Carolina Sons of Liberty, and was a key figure in leading resistance to the [[Stamp Act]]. Harnett was captured by the British in January of 1781, and died while still being held captive in April 1781.<ref>http://bioguide.congress.gov/scripts/biodisplay.pl?index=H000218</ref>
