'''Trieste''' (Slovene: ''Trst'') is a city and seaport in Northeastern [[Italy]], the capital of Friuli-Venezia Giulia and Trieste Province. It is on a narrow strip of land sharing a border with [[Slovenia]] and on the [[Adriatic Sea]]. The population is 205,000.

Since the city is so close to Slovenia, there are many Slovene people there, and Slovene is a local offical language here. Trieste is also home to the major shipping company Lloyd Triestino.
