In 2001 Russ Hochstein was drafted in the fifth round of the [[2001 NFL Draft]] by the [[Tampa Bay Buccaneers]]. After spending some time on the Tampa Bay practice squad he was released from the team. A few weeks later on November 17, 2002 the [[New England Patriots]] signed him to the team and placed him on their practice squad. In 2003 he appeared in 14 regular season games with New England and also played in all 3 of the Patriots playoff games at the guard position. Was part of a postseason unit that did not give up a single sack.... In 2004 and 2005 Russ played in all 16 games as a general backup to all the positions on the Patriots offense line along with an occasional stint at goal-line fullback. When starting center [[Dan Kolppen]] was put on the Patriots injury resevere list in the 2005 week nine game vs the [[Miami Dolphins]] Hochstein filled in at the position, started the rest of the regular and postseason games at center. The 2006 season saw less playing time for Hochstein as he only played in 13 games with no starts. In his career with the Patriots he has started 7 regular season games at center and three regular season games at guard.
