He was responsible in the 1960s for the publication of the '[[Little Red Book]]' ('Quotations from Chairman Mao Zedong'), and when the [[Cultural Revolution]] began in 1966 was a firm supporter of [[Mao Zedong]] and [[Jiang Qing]].
