The modern Green Lanterns are part of the [[Green Lantern Corps.]], an organization dedicated to policing space. The organization is made up of thousands of aliens, most of whom have a sector of space they're assigned to. For example, Earth falls into Sector 2814.
In order to charge their rings, they have to chant an oath: "In brightest day, in blackest night / No evil shall escape my sight. / Let those who worship evil's might / Beware my power, Green Lantern's light!"
