Amedeo Avogadro(1776-1856) was an Italian chemist and devout Christian who studied the volume of gases. He discovered what is now known as [[Avogadro's Principle]] or Avogadro's Law. Over 50 years later the significance of his discovery was appreciated, and the concept of a [[mole]] was discovered. The number of molecules in a mole is called [[Avogadro's number]].
