The Ch'ing Dynasty ruled China around 1600 A. D. It was founded by the Manchus. During the Ch'ing Period, China experienced peace, prosperity and safety. China grew wealthy through the trade of cotton, silk and tea. Eventually the Ch'ing became so contemptuous for other nations that foreign traders were forced to kneel when Emperor Kangxi (1661-1722) had his laws read.
