:::::: Killing people to support trade (unless it's an absolutely vital trade, like food to a country that can't grow its own, or something similarly important) is never justifiable.  Deciding to kill people if there's no risk to human life isn't justifiable, and then it's better to try to avoid it if it's at all possible.  The cargo going along the silk road was mostly composed of spices such as nutmeg.  Those were used (mostly by the wealthy) to flavor tasteless food.  Definitely not something that makes killing people acceptable.
