American Revolution
Line 1: Line 1:
Some people with ties to the Tea Party movement, such as [[Catherine Crabill]] and [[Sharron Angle]], have made comments that seem to support an armed revolution if the government becomes too tyrannical. In Angle's case, she [http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2010/06/30/angle-retracts-comment-reid/ later said] that she supports change through democratic channels instead. So I put the question out there: Are there any conceivable situations in which armed revolution could be justifiable against a democratically-elected government, or is it only justifiable against a dictatorship? :Have you heard of the [[American Revolution]]?

:Also, be careful with the choice of words "democratically-elected government," because that could be construed as either a form of [[Direct Democracy]] or [[Representative democracy]] which both differ in their meanings. Say what you mean, and say it directly: The United States is a [[Constitutional Republic]]. In my humble opinion, if there are those who wish to bring a [[Revolution]] to this great nation, with an aim to fundamentally transform America's system of government by turning it into a [[Socialist]] or [[Communist]] union, the American people can either accept these failed political philosophies as their new form of government, or its citizens can stand up and demand [[freedom]]. If demanding freedom is coined as a "Revolution," then yeah, I guess it is justifiable. Revolutions can be peaceful or violent. [[Don't tread on me]]. [[User:DerekE|DerekE]] 18:46, 15 July 2010 (EDT)
