Modern day clowns usually work in [[circus]]es, [[theater|theatrical]] productions, movies or domestic parties as entertainers, and typically wear brightly colored clothes and heavy facial makeup. While much of their appeal is to young children, a fear of clowns - coulrophobia - is not altogether uncommon amongst younger children and some adults also.
