The spread of such religions, caused a large period of relatively slow scientific progress. Prior to that, Roman scientific and engineering achievements had exceled. Christianity layed down science as a blocking force to the power held by the Church. The [[rennaisance era]], which came after the Middle Ages, saw a large increase in scientific achievement.
