By bigotry you must mean defending young children from mongering menacing freaks. What is this? Why would America endorse an Australia Athelete in the first place? There are different attitudes towards homosexuality in different sport, consider that it has been extremely difficult for players of football, boxing and basketball to come out, while it seems that more than half the women who are any good at tennis seem to be lesbian, and don't get me started on diving, synchronized swimming or figure skating. I would suggest that it has to do with the ability of people to come out of the closet, rather than there not being any gays in some sports.
