: That wasn't meant to seem "new agey" in the least, but I do understand what you're saying.  The song presents a view of life as being cyclical, as the baby is being born an old woman dies, and "The confusion that was hers belongs now to the baby down the hall."  I think the lyrics really speak to the significance of life (not just at childbirth), but as a whole.  I don't think the song is necessarily about the old woman being reincarnated as the newborn child, but it definitely speaks to the circle of life.
