Radiosity is a [[global illumination]] algorithm based on the [[finite element method]] for simulating the transport of light in a 3-dimensional scene as formulated by the [[Rendering equation]].  Radiosity takes into account the bouncing of light across diffuse surfaces, thus it's able to generate images much more realistic than ones generated using algorithms that only calculate direct illuminations.
