:I would suggest being more judicious in what one considers blaspehmy.  The character of Brian never proports to be messianic, or divine in any way, and actively asserts that he is confused with someone else.  Nor does it deny the divinity or any of the teachings of Christ.  While the film certainly makes fun of Christians by the associative period setting and story parallels, it is a larger criticism of the dogmatic indoctrination of various religions/governments/authorities.  As a "convert" from Catholicism to Presbyterianism, I found it to be humourously poignant.
