:: Paul, you're laboring under the delusion that logic factors into the equation. The point is emphasizing his otherness and how he's not like most Americans. Here's the logic: if President Obama says he's not a Muslim then he's dishonest, if he admits that he is or was then he belongs to a religion that we're at war with. Just putting the question out there creates doubt and fear, that's the point. It's like accusing a man of being a pedophile; there may be no concrete evidence at all to back it up, but I promise you no one will leave their kids alone with him anyway.
