Here are my answers to this assignment.
1. Which time period or periods in American History do you expect to enjoy studying the most? Why?
I look most forward to studying the American Revolution because I always was inspired by our founding and the principles our Founders had when founding our Republic.
2. When do you think Native Americans came here, and was it right for Europeans to settle here afterward?
I believe the Native Americans settled here from a Chinese settlement in the 5th century and do believe it was right for Europeans to settle here just as Native Americans have.
3. Christopher Columbus: overrated, or not given enough credit? Explain.
Christopher Columbus was indeed a God-fearing man and made a heroic voyage to the Americas and deserves credit for that. However, his voyages do gain more prominence than those of other explorers including Amerigo Vespucci (who America was named after).
4. True or false: the Puritans came to America in order to separate church from state (government). Explain.
False. Puritans came to America for religious freedom to ''practice'' their religion, not to separate religion from government or daily life.
7. In what ways did the colonies help build the economic strength of England?
The colonies supplied raw materials to England in which they used and sold to the colonies and England had surpluses.
8. Spain settled America before England did. So why is the United States an English-speaking nation, rather than a Spanish speaking one?
While Spain did come to the Americas first, England gained more power and influence and settled the American colonies, so the U.S. would naturally be an English-speaking nation.
