A '''harpy''' was a figure from [[Greek mythology]]. Originally a harmless wind spirit or ghost, the harpy was later conceived of as a loathsome creature with a bird's body and a woman's face.<ref>[http://www.britannica.com/EBchecked/topic/255827/Harpy Harpy], from Encyclopaedia Britannica</ref> Now, the word can also be used as a pejorative term for an unpleasant woman.
