To call Atheism a religion would mean you would also have to say that christianity is not a religion because a christian does not believe in, say, Odin.

Atheism is the personal rejection of a belief in a deity, based on a lack of empirical evidence. Atheism on its own does not make the assertion that there is no deity; simply that an individual has not found sufficient cause to justify belief in a deity. There is no need of faith, which requires one to assert that their belief system is the only correct one.
