why the exact words are important
Line 1: Line 1:
I have to question the reference (not its inclusion in the article).  Morgan uses the "n" word and it is deemed acceptable(-ish) because he is black.  Gay comedians make jokes about them selves all the time.  There is a single standard: if you are a part of a certain group, you are allowed to mock the group in question but are open to criticism should some believe your jokes encourage negative stereotypes.--CamilleT 14:34, 14 June 2011 (EDT)

Exact wording
There's a difference between "finding out that your son is a homosexual" and "if he said he was gay". Also, the context was the son supposedly using a high-pitched (effeminate) voice to make the announcement.

Moreover, the exact words used to talk about homosexuality are crucially important. Many words are employed by homosexuals and/or gay agenda supporters in a deliberately misleading way, starting with words like "homophobia" and "homophobic". It has become difficult to distinguish what someone means when he calls remarks "anti-gay".

Do such remarks mean "opposed to homosexuality" (possibly on principled grounds, such as "It's against my religion"?) Using the term homophobic implies that the speaker literally has a phobia, i.e., that they have a mental illness. It's a form of ad hominem argument, intended to take attention off the argument and focus all attention on how "crazy" or "unfair" a person is being. --Ed Poor Talk 14:40, 14 June 2011 (EDT)
