Cheburashka is a small strange animal.  Originally from a tropical forest, he fell asleep in an orange crate and ended up in a [[Russia|Russian]] market.  He is friends with an accordian playing [[crocodile]] named Гена (Gena).  The other main character, who could be described as an antagonist, is an old [[woman]] Старуха Шапокляк (Old Lady Shapoklyak).  She has a pet [[rat]] called Lariska.
