They were observed in 1998 by Supernova Cosmology Project astronomers, in a form of accelerating expansion of space. They were predicted already in 1985 with accuracy of one sigma, and don't have till now any other explanation beyond possibility of being caused by some not yet identified ''"dark energy"''.
