He was regarded as an ''enfant terrible'' for his provocative work and statements (he delegated the painting of many of his works to his assistants). He was also a notable experimental film-maker, directing such films as <i>Trash</i>, <i>Heat</i>, <i>Andy Warhol's Frankenstein</i> and <i>Andy Warhol's Dracula</i>.
