=== Richard Dawkins, Rebecca Watson and the "Elevatorgate" Incident ===
  −
  −
On 20 June 2011 Rebecca Watson, a sceptical blogger who has appeared naked in calendars produced by her "Skepchick" blog, released a YouTube video complaining that a man had sexually objectified her by asking her back to his room for coffee while they were in a hotel lift together after leaving the bar at 4a.m. This caused some discussion and argument among atheists, ending in an explosion on 2 July 2011 when Dawkins posted a comment on the "Pharyngula" blog. The comment took the form of a letter to an imaginary muslim woman, telling her to stop complaining about her treatment because American women were forced to endure worse, and specifically mentioned Watson. The typically rude and arrogant tone of the comment caused a large rift among the atheist "community" and resulted in calls by Watson and her supporters to boycott Dawkins' work. Later in July, Dawkins and Watson walked out of each other's speeches at The Amazing Meeting in Las Vegas.
