An '''Anapest''' is a metrical unit of a [[poetic meter|poetic foot]] in [[poetry]] which is made up of two unstressed (unaccented) styllables followed by a stressed (accented) syllable<ref>http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/anapest</ref>. Lines of verse that are predominantly made up of anapests are referred to as anapestic. For instance, a line consisting of five sets of anapests would be considered to be in anapestic pentameter. The word anapest itself is an anapestic word.
