A '''spondee''' is a metrical unit of a [[poetic meter|poetic foot]] in [[poetry]] which is made up of two stressed (accented) syllables<ref>http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/spondee</ref>. Lines of verse that are predominantly made up of spondees are referred to as spondaic. For instance, a line consisting of five sets of spondees would be considered to be in spondaic pentameter.
