The '''Green Party''' is an enviromentalist, left-wing [[British politics|British political party]]. Its present leader is Caroline Lucas, who in 2010 won the party's first seat in the [[House of Commons]], winning Brighton Pavilion. The party also has 2 [[MEP]]s in the [[European Parliament]].

The UK Green Party was a political party in the United Kindom, until 1990 when it split into seperate Scottish, Northern Irish and a combined English and Welsh Branch. It was regarded as and envriomentalist left-wing [[British politics|British political party]].  

 

Its present leader is Caroline Lucas, who became the first leader of the Green party following a leadership election in 2008, where she gained 2,559 votes to rival Ashely Gunstock's 210. Adrian Ramsey was also elected unopposed as deputy leader. In 2010 she became the first MP in the [[House of Commons]], for the party, as well as the first Green Party representaive elected by the FPTP electoral system. She won the seaside resort of Brighton Pavilion. The party also has 2 [[MEP]]s in the [[European Parliament]], Caroline Lucas was herself an MEP but had to give up the seat because of UK rules about Dual Mandates. She was replaced by Adrian Ramsey. The Party also has 2 representatives on the [[London Assembly]], led by former deputy Mayor Jenny Jones. It also recently took control of Brigthon and Hove City Council

 

At the 1999 Scottish Parliamentry elections the Scottish Green Party gained one seat, the first Green Parliamentarian in the United Kingdom, it gained 6 extra seats in 2003, before losing all but 2 at the 2007 election.
