It is a ''Prakrit'', one of the common spoken and written languages of ancient India. Being that, it was written with a variety of scripts, such as the [[Devanagari]] and [[Tamil]] scripts.
The body of Pali writings by [[Buddha]] and his followers is called the Pali Canon, and it is written in the script of whatever country it is used in (i.e. Thai script in [[Thailand]], [[Khmer]] script in [[Cambodia]], etc.)
