:"[S]ome obscure Senator from Wisconsin"??? Communists were far smarter than that. They surely knew who McCarthy was, as well as nearly every other prominent anti-communist like him.--[[User:Aschlafly|Andy Schlafly]] 13:48, 23 November 2011 (EST)
::However, he was not well known or in the national spotlight at the time. His sole accomplishment was berating the Army for torturing Germans for confessions. His name had never been linked to anti-communism prior to his famous speech where he produced the list and his star certainly wasn't very high before then (he was named the worst Senator). How could Moscow or anyone have predicted his fame 3 months prior? [[User:EnochCrosby|EnochCrosby]] 13:53, 23 November 2011 (EST)
