In Greek mythology, Crete was the home of the Minotaur, a beast with the head of a bull on the body of a man.

In Greek mythology, Crete was the home of the Minotaur, a beast with the head of a bull on the body of a man. According to Cretan legend Zeus, the King of the Gods, was born on the island. However, the ancient Greeks belived that Zeus was born on Mount Olympus in northern Greece and this dispute  gave rise to the ancient Greek saying "All Cretans are liars."
