== conservapedia – Embarrassing America since 2006! ==
Conservapedia, launched on November 21, 2006, has become one of the most amusing and unsavoury websites on the internet. Initially set up as a right wing alternative to Wikipedia, it rapidly gained notoriety as bastion of ignorance, religious fanaticism and heavy censorship.
Most visitors believed ‘conservapedia’ was a crudely written parody site – but it soon became clear it was in fact ‘the real deal’.
One event which brought conservapedia to greater public awareness was Andy Schafly’s attempt to refute Richard Lenski’s research. ( search ‘conservapediahasalittlehan’ ). Richard Lenski’s response is now considered one of the finest put-downs in the history of the internet. It also led to Danth’s Law (also known as Parker’s Law) mentioned in the British conservative newspaper, ‘the daily telegraph’. ( search ‘Internet-rules-and-laws-the-top-10-from-Godwin-to-Poe’).
However, Andy isn’t the star of the show. That accolade goes to the user known simply as user: conservative. He claims to be a mysterious entity but outside conservapedia, he is known as a failed writer called Ken ^DE~MYER^. Ironically on the website that calls itself ‘the trustworthy encyclopaedia’, this user’s real surname is a banned term! (Hence the inserted characters!) Ken is also mentioned in the telegraph article.
Ken’s ‘articles’ have to be read to be believed. We loved the ‘bestiality’ series. (So much for the family friendly environment!)
