::There's no question that Iraqi women as a group were better off under Saddam. They were not veiled. They could practice professions. They could look forward to a higher education. With the rise of the Shia majority, (which does not qualify as a "Constitutional liberal democracy") all of those advantages are evaporating. Are you claiming otherwise? --[[User:PF Fox|PF Fox]] 12:59, 7 April 2007 (EDT)

:::Hate to stick my nose into what appears to be a long-running argument but...the liberal perspective, I believe, is not that Iraqi women are better off under a fascist government than ''a'' constitutional democracy, but that under ''this'' constitutional democracy, their lives have in some ways become demonstrably worse.  That does not constitute support of Saddam's regime or a wish that it could be restored.  [[User:Murray|Murray]] 11:25, 9 April 2007 (EDT)
