:::::Ok. So we have a starting point. It shouldn't be too hard to find an average worldwide cost comparison of a 30 sec ad spot on the Rugby World Cup vs the Superbowl. This is the First World, after all. Billions of dollars (or euros or whatever) are being spent.  We're not all that stupid or ignorant in the First World. Somebody in an ad agency or business college somewhere in the First World must be on to this, one would think.  [[User:RobSmith|Rob Smith]] 15:50, 30 January 2012 (EST)

::::::Or, we can ignore Rob's childish nonsense and just revert his trolling on sight. It seems that the sysops don't think much of him, why should we? [[User:RachelW|RachelW]] 15:56, 30 January 2012 (EST)

::::::No, you don't want the average world price, as that will be the price for individual smaller markets rather than a cumulative price as we have for the Super Bowl. That is what is being compared, right? I'm not exactly sure why you seem obsessed with advertising rates; aren't we more interested in total viewership, and aren't those stats much easier to find than trying to do a bunch of math based on rates for every country that shows the RWC? If you really want to compare ad rates, you will have to add up the cost of a 30 second commercial on every station in the world that shows the RWC, which is difficult. It's easy to do with the Super Bowl, because it's only carried by a single station (though perhaps oversees viewers can see it on an NBC cable affiliate? I'm not sure, but in any case, that's going to be a small fraction of their audience), but in a situation in which millions of people are watching the same thing on hundreds of different stations, you need ''the sum'' the average rate for a single commercial in every single market, if you want to find the cost of airing an add ''everyone'' watching the RWC will see (I'm pretty sure this never happens, for language reasons if no other). Like I said, it's easy for the Super Bowl: pay NBS x million dollars and everyone watching will see your commercial. This can't really be done in international markets.
