This is an important line of investigation, as it can be shown the South never would have engaged in belligerency without the reasonable expectation or guarantee that Great Britain would trade Southern cotton for arms, as well as build the Confederate Navy. The gun running operation around the Northern blockade, that is to say, from Great Britain to British Honduras (incorporated into the British Empire in 1862), north through the Caribbean to Mobile Alabama was the supply line for Confederate weapons.
