On June 3, 1968, Solanas shot and wounded artist [[Andy Warhol]] in his studio. After her arrest, she was initially declared mentally incompetent to stand trial, diagnosed as [[schizophrenic]], and involuntarily committed to a psychiatric hospital. About a year later she was found competent, pleaded guilty in court to the charge of [[assault]], and was sentenced to three years in prison. She was released in 1971 and died in 1988.
