Spock
This article relates to the fictional Star Trek character. The author and pediatrician is found at Benjamin Spock.
Spock is a fictional character from the Star Trek television series and films. Spock was a halfbreed born of Human and Vulcan parents. As with all Vulcans, he has the characteristic pointed ears and pointed eyebrows and is known for his near total repression of his own emotions and reliance on logic.
Spock was played by actor Leonard Nimoy. In the eleventh Star Trek film and Star Trek Into Darkness, he was played by both Nimoy and Zachary Quinto.[1] In Star Trek Beyond, he is played by Quinto only, due to Nimoy's death in 2015.
The Vulcan salute used often by Spock was created by Nimoy (a neo-orthodox Jew) and is a single handed copy of the two handed gesture used when reciting the Aaronic blessing in Numbers 6:22-27 . The gesture is intended to signify the Hebrew letter shin, the first letter in "Shekhina" or the presence of God. The associated "live long and prosper" is taken from the same passage.
