Spur of the moment

The spur of the moment is a phrase which refers to an action or thought that is spontaneous and not planned in advance. Examples are "We decided to go to this restaurant on the spur of the moment" or "My insight on this problem came on the spur of the moment."

The term is usually used in a positive way, to suggest a good outcome of the spontaneous decision.
