Starr County is located in the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2020 census, its population was 65,920. Its county seat is Rio Grande City. The county was created in 1848. The county is named for James Harper Starr, who served as secretary of the treasury of the Republic of Texas. The county has around 66000 population according to 2020 census. The county population is almost entirely Hispanic or Latino, with 97.7% of its population identifying as such. It is the county with the highest proportion of Hispanics.
President Trump made history by flipping this district, which he won it by 16 points and shifted by 21 points to right.[1] Senator Ted Cruz also is first Republican Senator to win this county.[2]
