Stratified random sampling
From Conservapedia
Stratified random sampling is a form of random sampling that involves dividing the population into strata then taking a sample from the strata. Note that this method is only valid for observational studies and cannot be used for experimental studies.
Example
A researcher wants to know if the amount of time that college students spend reading the Bible is associated with gender. How might he procure a sample of 500 subjects, with even amounts in each group, in order to gather data?
Stratify the population into males and females, then number the strata 00001-XXXXX.[1] Take a random sample from each strata, skipping repeat numbers and numbers over XXXXX,[1] and ending once each group has hit 250.
