Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars is the first ever role-playing game of the Mario franchise. The game was released for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in Japan and North America in 1996. The game was developed by Squaresoft (later known as Square Enix) and published by Nintendo.
In 2023, a remake of the game, titled Super Mario RPG, was released for the Nintendo Switch. The game was co-developed by ArtePiazza and Nintendo, and the latter retained their role of publishing the game.
