Swiss National Day is on August 1 each year in Switzerland, in honor of the creation of its independent Swiss Confederation in 1291. On that day, the three cantons of Uri, Unterwalden — which are now the two half-cantons of Obwalden and Nidwalden — and Schwyz allied together to defeat foreign enemies.
