While the article is appreciated, you've gotten several key points wrong. Please do some research and consider revising it. Two key errors - First, HAL did not "attain" consciousness, he was an artificial intelligence that acted in a seemingly irrational manner because of conflicting fundamental orders that he was unable to reconcile. Second, Dave Bowman's pod did not land on Jupiter, but on the monolith in orbit around Jupiter. Also, Arthur Clarke has personally denied basing the name HAL on IBM - that was just a coincidence. It stands for "Heuristically programmed ALgorithmic computer", and he wrote to Byte magazine to try to put that rumor to bed. --DinsdaleP 12:20, 21 July 2008 (EDT)
