Talk:Development Aid

I have some extremely large criticisms of this article.

Firstly, Argentina and South Africa are in no way, shape or form third world countries. Argentina is almost unequivocally first world, and whilst it is less clear-cut with South Africa it is definitely not third world either. Just look at the HDI figures, which, whilst not perfect, are reasonable indicators at extremes, that is, no country with an HDI in excess of .65 is "third world".

Secondly, the final remark is not a solid argument. Individuality? We are all a product of genes, upbringing, peer pressure, as soul. And the sense of debt to a sponsor one will likely never meet in person? I find that unlikely. It is difficult to feel a sense of debt to such abstract things. Surely we might feel more in debt to our parents.

But even if this individuality argument were valid, would this really "damage any empowerment and individualistic free enterprise"? I fail to see why. Trinity123
