[i]t was the southern liberals who made life hell for blacks, who resisted inclusion of the black race in America. That is one of the more ridiculous statements that a person could conceivably make. Murray 22:46, 11 June 2009 (EDT)

Can't please everyone, explain to me Democrat Jim Crow's laws that legalized segregation which lasted up to the 1960s, primarily through the deep and extensive power of Southern Democrats. --Jpatt 23:01, 11 June 2009 (EDT)
While Southern Democrats supported segregation, they arguably weren't liberals- in fact, the modern alignment of the US political parties is largely a result of the split between the conservative (mostly on social issues, particularly on segregation) Southern Democrats and the rest of the party. Similarly, the KKK was also drawn from the (more extreme) Southern Democrats.Umlaut 21:49, 12 June 2009 (EDT)
Dixiecrats aren't liberals? I'm not buying it. You'll need more proof for your counterpoint. The liberal media was pointing fingers for James von Brunn as a rightwing extremist. Turns out he is a far leftwing nutjob. So the MSM has now decided to label and shame him as a Dixiecrat, as in Liberals Democrats are different from Dixiecrats. I am not convinced either. Trolling eyes are watching your response.--Jpatt 23:36, 12 June 2009 (EDT)
The Southern Democrats/Dixiecrats weren't liberals- they supported traditional Southern society (segregation, religion, etc.) against what they saw as interference from the Federal Government. Google "Dixiecrat"; I've got links from [1] and [2]. As to whether this makes them liberals or not- their platform was definitely nonliberal.
As for von Brunn- whether he was/is left or right wing is questionable. While he used the language of evolution, this is both a left and right wing phenomenon. In a manner hopefully not invoking Godwin's law, Hitler was notable for his (in some ways) right-wing policies and evolutionary racism. In addition, he here talks about liberalism being the problem.
