I saw a documentary by Werner Herzog the other day called Little Dieter Needs To Fly, about Dieter Dengler a US pilot who was shot down over Laos and captured by the Pathet Lao. He was handed over to the North Vietnamese but escaped. I don't know if this also makes Dieter a POW but it's remarkable story of courage, resilience and even forgiveness.
