Talk:John Pilger
Cut from intro:
- responsible for influential documentary films on Cambodia and East Timor. He
Don't use favorable words like influential for one-sided propaganda, unless of course they actually swayed people significantly. I thought Pilger was obscure, unlike Gore, whose one-sided An Inconvenient Truth has had some actual influence.
Also, if we mention his documentaries at all, we should talk about how one-sided they are. For example, he criticizes the U.S. for an "embargo" and for bombings, in a way that implies that the deaths of the millions of civilians murdered by the Cambodian and Vietnamese governments were somehow America's fault.
Please be careful when writing about partisans. Do not give any impression of impartiality or objectivity. This caution should be added to the CP guidelines. --Ed Poor Talk 13:25, 31 August 2007 (EDT)
- Ed, there's no need for me to describe him as 'Pilger, a pinko b#####d...'. Are we not aiming at being encyclopaedic, rather than propagandist? Surely by objectively stating that he is an opponent of US policy and a supporter of Chavez, I am unlikely to make Conservapedians warm to him: the facts speak for themselves. And his films on Cambodia and Timor did have a major impact on public opinion, in the UK at any rate. Pachyderm 13:32, 31 August 2007 (EDT)
- Pilger is a journalist. Evidence forthcoming.
Put back any relevant facts I took out. --Ed Poor Talk 13:37, 31 August 2007 (EDT)
Appreciate that, Ed. I had a wodge of references to his journalism/awards but they were bumped by an edit conflict. If you want I can put them up again. Pachyderm 13:43, 31 August 2007 (EDT)
